The polka dance that we are just about to show you
used to be danced with a smooth and flat sweeping step
and it was composed of three parts.

The first part is – a procession of dancing couples.

We begin the dance with the leg which is on your partner’s side,
M starts with the right leg and W starts with the left leg – 1-and-2, 1-and-2, 1-and-2, 1-and-2, 1-and-2, 1-and-2, 1-and-2.

The second part is – the swapping of partners and the exchange between couples
using the special “hook-hold”:

The third part is dancing the polka in pairs,
whirling in four directions along the circle.
